Terrific Te Reo

Last week we were learning some Te Reo and we were specifically learning about Maori Place names. First we learnt about how to say the different places when we watched a video about it and then we had a task to do.

For our task we had to find an image of a New Zealand on a map and then dot them on the map and write the Maori name for the place there too. My favourite part when making this was learning how to pronounce the names properly because that is one of the most important parts to learn.

Do you know the Maori names of places in New Zealand?

The Koalas And The Agitating Magpie

For the past three weeks we have been writing our own Narratives for the year one and two students in Kakano. I already wrote my story but for some of last week and this week I properly made my story and illustrated it on book creator. To make my images I made them using AI on Canva and then uploaded them on to book creator.

My book is about three koalas who get annoyed by an agitating magpie and it is also a rhyming book. As they are annoyed they try to make it go away but all they had to do in the end was ask nicely. My favourite part when making this book was making the illustrations and making it rhyming.

Have you ever made your own picture book? What was it about?

Amazing Advent

This week we have started to learn about Advent and for our first task we had to fill out a table where we write what we already know about Advent and then when we finish learning about Advent we will right what we now know. Something I wrote was about the Advent Wreath and how there are four candles three purple and one pink. I also wrote how they represent love, joy, peace and hope.

For our second task we had to make a Advent calendar where we do nice or kind things each day from the 1st of December till December 24th. Some things I wrote were: say a complement to someone, practice gratitude or do a service act around the school.

What do you know about Advent.

Marvellous Mood Board

For the past couple weeks we have been doing narrative writing. We have also been starting to make our own picture books. My book is about a koala bear family getting disturbed by a magpie and they try to bash it away and get it away but in the end all they had to do was ask nicely.

For one of my tasks I had to make a mood board about one of the main characters or some of the main characters. I did mine about the three koala bears and made it on Canva. We had to include what the characters look like, their personality and what they like etc.

Would you enjoy making a mood board? Well I enjoyed it, and if you did make one what would it be about?

Powerful Picture Book Writing

Lately we have been learning about picture book writing and are starting to write our own picture books. Last week I made a plan for my picture book using a template made by my teachers. My book is about a koala bear family gets disturbed by a magpie and her baby. To get rid of the magpie they bash and crash at it trying to knock it off or bash it away. But in the end all they had to do was ask it nicely. I enjoyed doing this because I got to be creative and come up with a story my own.

Have ever wrote a picture book before? What was it a about or what would you write one about?

All Saints And Souls Day

Last week in RE we were learning about about All Saints and All Souls Day. For our task we had to make a google drawing and include when All Saints and All Souls Day is and why we have it. Then we had to make a poster about a Saint and one of the practices people do on All Souls Day and put them on the Google drawing too. Something I learnt is that St Patrick became a Saint because he brought Christianity to Ireland. I enjoyed doing this because I got to decorate the poster and make it my own with different colours and pictures.

Do you celebrate All Saints and Souls Day? What do you do?

Amazing Algebra

This term in maths we have been learning about algebra. One of my tasks in the past few weeks was to make a cheat sheet or google drawing showing the things I know and the things I have learnt. We had to also make it colourful so it would draw someone in.

Somethings I have learnt is how to find a rule and that how to find patterns in tables. I also learnt how to make a graph from a table. I enjoyed this because I got to put down the things that I was thinking or the things that were in my head and put them of a piece of work to show all of my thinking. I also enjoyed making it colourful and easy to read with keys.

What do you know about algebra?

Polypad Math Create

Last week for maths we were learning about geometry. For our task we had you polypad to make nets for different object and boxes. We also had to try and figure out what the box/object was called as a shape. Once we had done that we put it on a Google slide and a picture of the net and shape beside each other. The types of objects were a football, a favourites chocolate box and more. I enjoyed doing this task because I liked using polypad and creating the nets for the task.

Have you used polypad before?

Joyful Jesse Owens

Today for reading we conjoined reading and PBL. We were learning about the Olympics and racism and human rights with in the Olympics. For our task we first we watched videos and read articles about an athlete that had faced these challenges and me and my friend Evie learnt about Jesse Owens. Then we had to answer some questions in a table on a google drawing. Lastly we had to write a blog about the tasks and answer these few questions in the blog.

Who is your favourite Olympic athlete? Have they faced challenges? What have they faced?

Radiant Reading

Learning goals: Independently predict, interpret and analyse text, reading between the lines to gain a deeper meaning. Identify several ideas, discuss the author’s stance or purpose, and understand relationships in the text.

This week for reading we have been learning about Olympic Boycotts. We have looked into three different boycotts and after reading about them we added to a set of slides with reading tasks for us to do. The reading slides had tasks like venn diagrams, tables to fill in about the authors stance and a new vocabulary list. Something I learnt is that the authors stance it what the authors opinion about the topic is. I also learnt that an incursion is a military way of saying invasion.

What boycott interests you the most and why?
